Spring is a time for newness, fresh starts and rejuvenation!
Last Friday marked the official start of SPRING! Which means budding flowers, baby birds and lots of I look forward to spring because I love hiking and being out doors (with lots of sunscreen, of course!). Outdoor brunches and patio drinks also have their place on my list of favourite spring activities!!
Here are some of my tips to get you (and your body)
ready for SPRING!
sunshine . It's time to shed our winter skin and look forward to warmer weather (eventually, I hope!) Sometimes we find ourselves in a bit of a rut from winter (lack of vitamin D perhaps?). It has been a particularly harsh winter, which makes it extremely hard to find motivation to stay in shape. I know I haven't been the biggest fan of getting outside and being active, particularly when it's so comfy and cozy in my oversized knits. Here are some of my tips to get you (and your body)
ready for SPRING!
1. A Little Bit of Cleansing.
Sometimes it's tough to stay hydrated. But it is OH SO important! A really great habit to get yourself into is drinking water first thing in the morning (on an empty stomach!). An even better habit to get yourself into is drinking water with lemon first thing in the morning. It's a sure fire way to kick start your digestive system at 7 a.m. and get everything going! Lemon is a natural cleansing agent, source of potassium, full of antioxidants and even gives you a burst of energy! If you take away JUST one of the tips from this post, it should probably be this one.
2. Find Fun Outdoor Activities.
The BEST way to jumpstart your fitness routine is to find something going on outdoors in your area. I'm really into yoga, so when I heard that a local studio was holding an outdoor class last year at a music festival in Burlington, I was IN! It was probably one of the best yoga classes I've ever attended! Moving through a sun salutation with the sun shining is truly a magical experience. Albeit, this suggestion requires a little research and planning, it's definitely something to look
into - if you live near a lakefront, that's usually a good place to start!
3. Take a Hike.
Nothing screams "spring/summer" to me more than hiking! Fresh air, nature, sunshine - not a whole lot can make me feel better (a new Kate Spade does come pretty close though). It can be as simple as a stroll along a path or a more difficult trail along the Niagara Escarpment. Many of my friends and family members are really into hiking so we love making it a group activity. Sometimes we even pack a little picnic (so cute!). My grandfather has hiked almost the entirety of the Escarpment over the years - it's on my bucket list. |
4. Out With the Old (In With the New)!
Spring is the perfect time to purge older pieces to make space for a new sundress or two. So why not pull out all the old clothing in your closet, dressers and wardrobe that are just collecting dust and think about donating them to a used clothing store, or even selling some of the designer pieces you don't need anymore. I like to give them away to my younger cousin and sometimes my friends and I do a clothing swap (that way you can always borrow them back!).
5. Once Spring Has Arrived... Go Drinking!
Patio drinks are the official spring/summer activity of the young professional. Meeting up with a group of friends after work for some drinks and apps - it doesn't get much better than that. A lot of local coffee shops are getting liquor licenses these days, which makes the possible meet-up locations endless. I'm certainly looking forward to finishing final projects with a tall gin and tonic! |
This picture has me pining for spring weather, sundresses and designer sunglasses.
