Pale skin + [Winter - Sunshine] = I camouflage with the snow.
I know there are a select few out there who can relate to this one. Even in the sunniest of months, my skin seems to glow (in the I stand out during glow-in-the-dark bowling kind of way). The struggle is always exponentially more real during the snowy season, I mean I might as well be hibernating for the amount of vitamin D my skin retains. But fear not my fair skinned friends, I have created a list of my best advice to keep your pale skin in tip-top shape during the long winter months!
1. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate.
There's nothing worse than slathering layer after layer of moisturizer on your dry, flaky skin. It's like a weird, thick barrier of dead skin between you and the rest of the world. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS. Something as simple as coconut-sugar scrub (2 parts coconut oil, 1 part sugar) is just like a mini spa treatment. Getting rid of the pesky dry bits allows your natural skin to shine; especially in the dead of winter when we can all use a little pick-me-up. Trust me, your skin will thank you.
2. Opt For Gentle Face Cleansers.
A friend of mine recently suggested a skin care routine that I have absolutely fallen in love with. And the best part is - it's all natural AND even more budget-friendly than my regular face wash! It's super easy too. Step one: take off make-up with coconut oil (such a handy ingredient to keep in stock!). Step two: cleanse face with raw, unpasteurized honey. TA DA! That's it! The benefits of these natural cleansers are amazing! My skin hasn't felt so soft in months! They both contain anti-bacterial qualities which cleanse your pores, without drying out your skin, making for a picture-perfect complexion.
3. Still Use Sunscreen!
Yes, that's right my pale friends, sunscreen STILL needs to be part of your daily beauty routine. That's because even though it might feel like we live in perpetual darkness somedays, there are still harmful UV rays out there. I use Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30 EVERY SINGLE DAY to make sure I protect the milky white canvas that is my face.
4. Hydrate.
I'm sure you've all heard this one before; most health professionals recommend two litres of water per day. This is an often over-looked, but fundamental part of your beauty regime. Your skin hydrates itself from the inside out, so it's often visible when you're not drinking enough water. It's a key element to keeping your skin clear because drinking lots of water means you're constantly flushing toxins from your body.
5. Embrace It.
You've heard the saying "when you can't beat 'em, join 'em", right? Well the same goes for your pale skin. So put down that Kardashian Glow "Natural" Bronzer and step away from the tanning bed. You're not fooling anyone. If you're as fair skinned as me, none of this will turn out the way you want it to. Just treat yourself to a new red lip stick instead ;) after all, we have the perfect complexion to pull it off.
